“Before I joined the program, since I can use clean water only turning on the tap, I didn’ t know the fate of domestic wastewater, just felt it disappeared somewhere. But after I visited wastewater treatment plant and attended many lectures as a member of the BWEL program, I really understood the importance of water environment. I think we have to keep interest in water environment and do not forget that there are many people who are suffering from water shortage. ”

“Besides our individual researches related to the environmental science and engineering, students from all over Asia were given chances to intensively communicate about the current environmental issues. This had opened our eyes to Japanese advancement on environmental sustainability, and helped us to understand about the real situation on the other countries. It is a basement that provides the students to get in contact with the world and actually get in touch with the global environmental problems. BWEL program created as well an excellent network available for students from Asia. We learned the cultures and language of Japan together, and shared our views on each other's culture of our homelands. I had my best pals from Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and China. We shared joys and surpassed hardship together on this land of the rising sun. I wish that there will be students from other countries joining us and the program will be running smooth in the future. ”

“What we learn at school may not be what we will work on at work place, but it helps us to learn new things quickly. The rigorous technical knowledge that I gained from the Gifu University is my foundation to the new field that I'm working on, Cambodia climate change policy development. My research on disaster risk management enables me to understand the climate change issue, which I also learned some concepts from Joint Seminar opened in the BWEL program. The nature of this program is a multicultural working environment. This unique experience with Japanese working spirit that I got used to in Gifu helps me very much in my working environment where my colleagues come from Cambodia, Africa, Europe and Japan. Besides from technical expertise, there are many emerging new knowledge, that I wish to have learned and I wish all students in BWEL will know before they start working. Firstly the concepts of project management, finance, monitoring and evaluation are critical for some working places driven by availability of projects or programs. Secondly, I see the interpersonal skills are highly valued if work involves a lot of stakeholders. Lastly, don't forget to keep eyes on the world trend. ”
